Wide Field of View Messier 24
IC 4715, M24, is sometimes considered an open cluster
in Sagittarius but it is actually a window through the
dust clouds in the Milky Way that allows us to see
stars from the far side of our galaxy. This wide field
of view makes the window apparent. NGC 6603,
a true open cluster, is also visible and is
nearly centered in the frame.
Note that M17, M18, M20, M21, M23, M24,
and M25 are all visible in this picture.
